Roundabout Armchair

1760–90
Not on view
This chair represents the most common type of New York roundabout chairs. This chair's claw feet, low elongated crest rail, finely wrought knuckle arms, and pierced splats, make it the most thoroughly Rococo of its type and support a late-eighteenth-century date. The traditional attribution of these corner chairs to Albany has yet to be documented.
