Of the surviving Tiffany drawings of individual components for church furnishings, this example is among the most highly finished. The pulpit was to be fabricated in brilliant white and contrasting green-figured marble, framed by mosaic detailing. The draftsman simulated the texture of highly polished marble by applying a varnish or glaze over the green areas, giving a sheen to the normally soft matte paper surface.
