Tiraz Textile Fragment
Not on view
This undyed linen textile fragment is embroidered in red silk with an Arabic inscription in kufic script placed horizontally across the central field. Like many tiraz textiles, the inscription includes the name of the ruler and patron (Baha al‑Dawla Abu Nasr Firuz) as well as the date of production. Textiles such as this example were either produced in private workshops or in those dedicated to the royal household. The royal workshops were directly under the caliph’s control, producing fabrics and garments for members of the court.
