Fragment of a Base with Pair of Peacocks flanking a Palm Motif
Not on view
This fragment belonged to a hexagonal object, possibly an inkwell. Birds are a typical theme of Seljuq art, especially in architectural decoration. The iconography of confronted animals separated by a tree is an ancient form and variants are found throughout Near Eastern art.
