Panel

6th–7th century
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 300
A medallion filled with a lion, a symbol of Christ, is flanked by cross-inscribed medallions. Holes on the underside suggest that the panel formed the crest of a piece of furniture or of a barrier.
