An English Royal Yacht
Knowledgeable in the riggings and habits of ships from first-hand observation, van de Velde may have drawn the English royal yacht Mary on which the monarch William of Orange traveled to Holland after their wedding in 1677. The spirited, curvy lines, which give the drawing a sense of movement and brio, are consistent with the artist’s draftsmanship.
