Kosode Fragment with Bamboo Curtain and Pines

Japan

Not on view

The curving bamboo curtain on this textile must have swept imperiously from houlder to hem in the complete kosode from which this fragment came. The view beyond the curtain is of pine trees, their boughs embroidered in brilliantly chosen shades of silk. Under the boughs are ghostly outlines of what might once have been trunks delineated in embroidery.
