Kirdi peoples, Mafa group

Not on view

Created by Matakam, Mofa or Mafa potters, from the Kirdi group, such large round vessels present an unusual form. Characteristic are the tilted neck and rope-like appliqué which have been described in the litterature as stylized representations of a rib-cage or cicatrice, which participate in enhancing this vessel with anthropomorphic features.
