A young woman dressed in an embroidered cap and striped skirt milks a cow in a barn and turns her head to smile as a magpie tries to steal a spoon from her clog. Behind are goats, calf and a man leaning against a post who watches with amusement. In the background is a village and a goose-girl. Based on a painting exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1858.
