A dead mother deer lies in the snow as her fawn tries to suckle. Based on a picture shown at the Royal Academy in 1848 accompanied by the verse: "Full many a shot at random sent / Finds mark the archer little meant; / And manya word at random spoken, May hurt of heal heart half broken."
