The Marquand Altarpiece

The Assumption of the Virgin by Andrea della Robbia (1435–1525) consists of sixty-six individual glazed and fired terracotta sections.

The altarpiece suffered extensive damage before entering The Met collection, and only some of its pieces have been conserved.

This video uses 3D color-rendered scans to illustrate how the sections were fitted together like pieces in a building-block puzzle.
