Design for Two-Light "Te Deum" Window

Designer Frederick Wilson American, born Ireland
1900
Not on view
This sketch for a memorial window illustrates the procession of St. Ambrose and St. Augustine to the baptistery in Milan where Ambrose baptized Augustine in a.d. 367. According to legend, at this event the The Deum hymn was sung for the first time. The design for St. Ambrose, depicted in the left window, was reused two decades later for the installation of a large mosaic in the First Methodist Church of Los Angeles, the last project Wilson did for Tiffany Studios.
