At the top, the teacher Petros passes his inkpot and pen to his student Mkrtich‘, symbolically transmitting his knowledge of scribal arts and traditions to the next generation. Both are bearded and wear the black veghar, the headgear for celibate priests. The inscription above asks readers for remembrance. At the bottom, Petros’s students T‘uma and Simeon appear as two haloed, beardless figures holding long-necked paper polishers over the paper, the rectangular-shaped forms, they are polishing.
