These exquisite censers are in the Ottoman Gothic style used for Armenian metalwork. Censers, chalices, oil lamps, caskets for incense or holy oil, and other liturgical implements were produced in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries in a hybrid style mixing Ottoman arabesques with Western European decoration reminiscent of late Gothic art. These censers with their unusually elaborate lids are probably among the earliest dated examples of this style inscribed in Armenian.
