Hand Reliquary of Saint Abulmuse

Armenian

Not on view

Abulmuse was an Eastern saint martyred in Sinjar. In the late eighth century, his life was first recorded in Syriac, probably by a Church of the East (Nestorian) Christian. In 873, Gurgen Artsruni, prince of Taron and Andzevatsiq, had the text translated into Armenian and established a feast day for the saint. In the twelfth century, the relic was at the Arstruni church at Aght‘amar. This later handsome reliquary shows the continuing veneration of the saint.
