Ceramic Bowl

Not on view

Excavated at the citadel in Dvin, this bowl links Armenia to its eastern trade routes. Chinese models inspired the lobed rim and the body emulating porcelain. The incised floral pattern, covered with glaze, is typical of Seljuk white ware produced in Iran and Syria. The discovery of more examples of white ware at Dvin suggests such works were widely popular among the city’s elite, regardless of religion.
