Flowing Water Framed Panel

Honma Kazuaki Japanese

Not on view

Honma Kazuaki makes “plaited paintings,” further developing Iizuka Shōkansai’s idea of two-dimensional, framed bamboo works. This type of work earned him two Special Recognition Awards (Tokusen) at the Nitten exhibitions, including one in 1983 for Flowing Water. The bold colors and rhythmic texture were inspired by the yellows, golds, and reds of autumn leaves reflected in the waves of a river.
