Piazza San Marco

Canaletto, il più famoso paesaggista di Venezia nel Settecento, fu particolarmente amato dai turisti inglesi che visitavano la città. Questa splendida tela dai colori luminosi e ben conservata ritrae la famosa Piazza San Marco. Qui le finestre del campanile sono meno numerose che nella realtà, e le aste delle bandiere più alte, ma per il resto Canaletto riprodusse fedelmente la scena. L’utilizzo libero e non uniforme del colore e le tonalità chiare indicano una datazione verso la fine del decennio 1720-30.
