Brocca con manico a forma di felino

Questa brocca testimonia l’influenza delle precedenti culture sull’antica arte islamica prodotta in Iran. La forma della brocca ricorda opere in metallo sia dell’impero dei Parti (247 a.C.-224 d.C.) che di quello sasanide (224-651 d.C.). Le teste delle anatre sull’orlo e le astratte forme arboree sulla superficie sono motivi di derivazione prettamente sasanide. La composizione nel suo insieme e le forme indicano il passaggio da uno stile figurativo a un gusto crescente per la ripetizione ritmica di motivi, caratteristica dell’antica età islamica. Il manico ha la forma di un esile gatto teso a spiare le anatre sull’orlo e pronto a fare un balzo.
