猫の把手の付いた水差し

この水差しは、イランにおける初期イスラム 美術が、それ以前の文化の影響を受けていたことを示しています。水差しの形はパルテ ィア帝国(紀元前247–紀元224年)とササン帝国(紀元224–651年)で作られた金属細工の面影を残し、口縁にある鴨の頭と胴を覆う植物の装飾は、間違いなくササン様式に由来しています。全体の構図と造形は、それまでの写実的なものから、初期イスラム期に次第に好まれるようになったリズミカルな規則模様への変遷を示しています。把手は引き伸ばした猫の形をしており、口縁の鴨に今にも飛びかかろうとしているかのようです。
