Curator and Artist Talk—The Infinite Artistry of Japanese Ceramics

Gain a deeper understanding of Japanese ceramics and the enduring significance of tea culture during an afternoon of presentations featuring a Met curator and guest artists from Japan. Begin with Monika Bincsik, curator of the exhibition The Infinite Artistry of Japanese Ceramics, as she explores Japan's rich and extensive history of ceramic art. Then, learn from ceramic artist Raku Kichizaemon XVI, current head of the renowned Kyoto-based Raku workshop, celebrated for its tea bowls since the late sixteenth century. Finally, consider the contemporary reception of tea with artist YAMAN NKYMN, whose practice merges traditional tea culture with modern contexts, including Japanese manga, anime, and street fashion.
