グラッケンズが描いたこの光景では、行儀のよい子供たちが数人の大人たちに見守られながらニューヨークのセントラルパークの雪に覆われた丘でソリ遊びをしています。子供たちは防寒着を着、大人たちは流行の衣服をまとっていることから、中流階級の娯楽の情景であることが分かります。グラッケンズはアッシュカン派と呼ばれるようになった美術家グループに属していました。現代生活と都会の困窮についてありのままの真実を伝えることを名目としてはいましたが、このグループの画家は世界を楽観視し、ニューヨークを婉曲的に表すことが普通でした。
