王羲之観鵝図(詳細)

南宋の首都だった杭州が1276年に陥落した後、銭選は「取り残された忠実な臣下」として生きることを決意します。故意に稚拙な手法で描いたこの「青緑山水」様式の巻物は、伝説的な書聖で道教の秘術者だった王羲之(303–361年)の物語に取材しています。王羲之は雁の優雅な首の動きなど、自然の形に発想を得て書したと言われています。銭選は写実的描写を避け、古代を夢のような情景で描くことにより、宋朝滅亡の後に感じた孤独感を強調しました。
