仏教がアジア全域に広まった重要な理由のひとつに、体と心の両方に対する癒しの習慣がありました。癒しの仏である薬師を描いたこの壁画では、薬師如来が赤い衣をまとい、太陽と月の象徴を手に座っている菩薩を含む諸神に付き添われています。左右に6体ずつ描かれている十二神将像は、如来の他者救済の誓いを象徴しています。大柄で幅広顔の主尊と、奥行きの浅い構図は、仏教と道教の両方を主題として14世紀前半に活動した朱好古の作品の特徴です。
