カルトジオ会修道士の肖像

ペトルス・クリストゥスは、1441年にヤン・ファン・エイクの死後、ブルージュの画壇の中心として活躍しました。この肖像画は間違いなく彼の最高傑作のひとつであり、日付のある作品のうち最も古いものです。この中でクルストゥスは、当時の肖像画の典型である平坦な薄暗い背景ではなく、部屋の片隅と思われる空間に修道士を配置しています。ハエがとまっている銘のある額縁は、トロンプ・ルイユ(だまし絵)の技法で描かれています。
