サンジェルマン・デ・プレ修道院は、304年に没した聖ヴィンセントが着用した上衣の聖遺物を安置するために設立されたもので、聖ヴィンセントに対する特別の信仰がありました。この聖遺物は、メロヴィング朝のキルデベルト王(558年没)がスペインから持ち帰った品です。キルデベルトは、この作品の左に騎乗の人物として描かれており、その右側の白馬に乗った人物は弟のロタールです。大きな一組の作品の一部であるこのステンドグラスには、他に聖ヴィンセントとローマの地方総督ダシアノとの抗争が描かれています。同時期に製作された有名なサン・シャペル教会のルイ9世の王宮付属礼拝堂のステンドグラスとともに、これらの作品は13世紀中頃までにパリが斬新で表現力豊かなガラス絵様式の中心地になっていたことを証明しています。
