Roll die for decorative borders on vase

This roll die was used for a decorative border on a vase, 1982.349, in the collection of the Museum. Cut with a design in intaglio, the die was used for the wide, geometric border at the base of the vase. In the interstices of the geometric design are alternating motifs of crane with spread wings, sprigs of blossoms, and palm-like leaves. The Museum owns a second die, 1985.191.8, that was also used for a decorative border on the vase.
