아담 또는 사람의 창조
이탈리아와 파리의 루브르 박물관에 있는 미켈란젤로의 미술에 대한 직접적인 경험은 로댕으로 하여금 르네상스 대가의 표현적인 모델링에 숨겨진 수많은 비밀을 밝힐 수 있게 한 것 같습니다. 로댕은 1881년에 파리 살롱에서 사람의 창조라는 제목으로 이 작품의 원래 석고 모형을 전시하였습니다. 한동안 그는 결코 건축되지 않았던 장식 미술의 신박물관 대문으로 계획되었던 지옥의 문 을 위한 그의 디자인에 이 강력한 전설적인 인물을 포함시키려고 하였습니다. 1912년에 공개된 로댕 작품 전용 갤러리를 위해 메트로폴리탄 박물관이 의뢰한 이 작품은 그 모형에 따른 첫 동 주조입니다.
