1980년대 말 슈트루트는 소비 상품의 범람과 언론의 선동으로 조성된 문화 속에서 예술이 나아갈 길을 잃었다고 느꼈습니다. 바로 이때 그가 제작한 복원 전문가들은 작가의 고유한 작품 이미지를 나타낼 뿐만 아니라 미술관과 교회, 그 외 “문화의 성당”에서 미술 작품을 감상하는 사람들을 촬영한 슈트루트의 가장 유명한 대형 컬러 사진 연작의 초창기 작품입니다. 이 작품은 혈연 관계는 아니지만 공동의 목적을 위해 모인 개인 집단을 묘사한 점에서는 일종의 가족 사진이라고 할 수 있습니다. 현대 사회에서 필요한 과거를 복원하는 복원 전문가들의 역할은 슈트루트 자신과 흡사한 데가 많습니다.
