Desk and Bookcase

1786
Not on view
The overall proportions and detailing of this desk and bookcase proclaim it to be the product of a rural craftsman. The star inlays and the stepped interior drawers suggest a Massachusetts influence, but certain other details are sometimes found on furniture from New York or Long Island. The eastern Long Island history of the piece would explain the stylistic mix.
