번 존스 경 작품 중 가장 유명한 이 그림은 브르타뉴 민요의 후렴구를 토대로 그려진 몇몇 작품들의 최종판입니다. “Hélas! je saisun chant d’amour, / Triste ou gai, tour à tour”(아아! 나는 사랑 노래를 안다네/슬픔과 기쁨이 끝없이 교차하는). 15세기 베니스의 화가비토레 카르파초의 그림을 떠올리게 하는 인물들과 “아서왕 전설”에 나옴직한 석양에 잠긴 풍경이 인상적인 이 작품 사랑의 노래는 이탈리아 르네상스와 중세 고딕 미술을 지향하는 라파엘 전파 운동(라파엘로 이전으로 돌아가자는 운동)의 영향을 반영합니다.
