딕스는 1920년대 독일의 신즉물주의로 알려진 무표정 사실 그대로 사실주의 운동으로 가장 저명한 화가입니다. 그는 차갑고 객관적인 사실적 묘사와 신랄한 세부 표현을 통해 변호사, 의사, 화상, 시인, 창녀, 무용수 등 모델의 개성을 포착하였습니다. 의뢰를 받아 그린 이 로즈버그의 초상화에서는 딕스의 냉혹하고 솔직한 묘사를 볼 수 없습니다. 공구제조업자인 로즈버그는 딕스를 포함한 드레스덴의 젊은 예술가들의 작품 수집가였습니다. 세부 묘사를 통해 그가 자신의 작은 사무실에서 포즈를 취하고 있음을 알 수 있고, 사무실은 상업과 금전을 나타내는 우중충한 색으로 묘사되어 있습니다.
