Resplandecentes e enigmáticos, os escudos das Ilhas Salomão são escudos ordinários de vime recobertos com pasta de nozes de parinari e em seguida pintados e decorados com incrustações de madrepérola. Hoje, não devem existir mais de 25 exemplares, todos com uma decoração similar: uma figura humana no centro, talvez um guerreiro ou espírito guardião, de pé sobre uma faixa transversal muitas vezes adornada, como aqui, com rostos humanos. É provável que esses escudos frágeis fossem somente usados como objetos cerimoniais para indicar status social e as proezas guerreiras de seus portadores.
