Two Lansquenets
Pictures of splendidly dressed soldiers in poses designed to show off their costumes and weaponry became extremely popular in Europe at the end of the fifteenth century. By the early sixteenth century, these military depictions were all the rage in southern Germany and Switzerland. Lansquenets were among the Swiss and German military hired by Emperor Maximilian I at the close of the sixteenth century.
