经过数世纪的外族统治和外邦人在埃及境内的大范围定居,到公元二世纪时,埃及已是名副其实的多元文化社会。图上这位衣着整洁的男孩眼神中透着信任和悲伤,画上文字写道:尤底克斯,卡撒尼奥斯的自由人;赫拉克莱提斯之子,伊凡多斯(或作:赫拉克莱提斯,伊凡多斯之子)我签字。显然这名男孩被卡撒尼奥斯解除了奴隶身份,但却夭亡。文中提到的另两位之一可能订购了这幅肖像画或支付了购画款。遵循希腊绘画传统制成的这幅画被放置在男孩埃及风格的木乃伊的裹布里,以盖住他的头。用面具覆盖头部在埃及已有数千年的历史。
