after Daniel Marot the Elder French

Not on view
Design for a vase with a cylindrical body and lacking handles. On the body, the crowned escutcheon of Great Britain, flanked by figures and armorial trophies. At top, a burning bullet. From a group of five plates copied from Marot's series "Vasses de la Maison Royalle de Loo," which includes six plates with designs for the garden vases of Het Loo Palace in Apeldoorn, Netherlands. Marot's first edition was likely produced before 1698, when vases were sculpted based on two of the designs. Unlike the originals, the copies have Latin inscriptions along the bottom, which include the names of the sculptors Jan Blommendael, Jan Ebbelaer, and Pieter van der Plas. The series was published by Benthemensus and the plates were printed in red ink.
