اشتهر مارتين كارلين بأثاثه الفاخر المزيّن بالخرف الصّينيّ المجلوب من منطقة سافر. وممّا يُلاحظ أنّ ظهر الصّفيحة المركزيّة لهذا المكتب، وهي من الخزف الصّيني الذي كان قد طلاها أدمي فرانسوا بويا، قد وُسِم بحـَرْفٍ يوافق سنة 1776م. وكان المكتب في أوّل الأمر لصاحبة الصوت النّدي ماري جوزيفين لا غير، وقد كانت تعيش عيشة بذخ ومجون بفضل عشّاقها الميسورين. وإثر ذلك اقتنتها ماريا فيودوروفنا، وكانت وقتئذ الدّوقة الكبرى لروسيا، بمناسبة زيارتها لباريس سنة 1782م.
