Beachwear

Manufacturer Jantzen American
1955
Not on view
Since the 19th century, men's bathing suits have been fitted and designed to accommodate swimming, rather than the modest bathing suits worn by women. This bathing ensemble, along with 2009.300.208a, b, was made by well-known sportswear company Jantzen for their 1955 "Orientale" collection. It reflects the popularity of going to the beach as a recreational activity, and the necessity for versatile ensembles that accommodated both swimming and socializing.
