Parasol
Not on view
Featured is an example of an eighteenth century parasol with a canopy that was replaced at a later date, probably late 19th century. The repairer's label is still attached. Of particular interest are the whalebone rather than metal ribs and the hand-made bone or ivory ribs which vary in shape. During this period, whalebone was commonly used in corsets as support material.
