Fruit dish (one of a pair)
Not on view
Thomas Heming, who registered his first mark in June 1745, made these gilded silver dishes during his term as principal goldsmith to King George III from 1760 to 1782. The symmetry and elegant decoration of these boat-shaped fruit bowls make a striking contrast to the Rococo style popular at the time. The arms engraved in the cartouches placed at the center of each side are those of the Scottish MP James, 2nd Earl of Fife (1729 - 1809), and his wife, Lady Dorothea Sinclair (1739 - 1818), daughter of Alexander, 9th Earl of Caithness.
