Slop bowl

Manufactory Vienna
Factory director Claudius Innocentius Du Paquier period Austrian

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 533

The floral decoration on this bowl is particularly beautiful and must have been executed by one of Du Paquier’s most accomplished flower painters. The restrained composition on the exterior, consisting of individual sprays of intensely bold anemones, a soft drooping rose, and night-scented stock, is contrasted with the dense decorative border of Laub- und Bandelwerk on the inside, where a few more blossoms, including anemones, are found.
