Terracotta amphora (jar)

Cypriot

Not on view

The shape originated at the end of the Late Bronze Age and was particularly popular in Geometric Cyprus. It represents the consolidation of a pointed amphora, which could not stand on its own, with a low cylindrical stand. The ribbing on the body and the form of the foot together with the black slip suggest the influence of metal prototypes.
