Terracotta kyathos (cup-shaped ladle)

Greek, Attic

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 155

Between eyes, horsemen; at the handle, panthers

The decoration of the bowl is applied to a light slip, a technique that began to be popular about 530 B.C. The horsemen are riding to left, which is unusual.
