Pierre Dubreuil French
Not on view
Born into a wealthy mercantile family in Lille, Dubreuil was a prominent figure in European Pictorialist circles at the turn of the century, exhibiting his work with the
prestigious Photo-Club de Paris and with the British Linked Ring Brotherhood. While many of his fellow Pictorialists favored pastoral or allegorical subjects, Dubreuil fully embraced the forms and iconography of the modern machine age. In this view of Paris on the cusp of modernity, the meter of a motorized taxi dominates the foreground, while pedestrians and horsedrawn carriages recede hazily into the background.
