Dan Weiner American

Not on view

Weiner was a much-respected photojournalist for the enormously successful picture magazines of the 1940s and 1950s such as Collier's, Fortune, and Life. His pictures combined a generosity of spirit towards his subjects–often seen in his photographs of life in New York's immigrant quarters–as well as a sharp eye for the contemporary scene, such as this Brooklyn couple puzzling over the latest craze. Weiner died tragically at the age of forty in a plane crash while en route to a photographing assignment; in a memorial to his friend in Print magazine, Evans described Weiner's qualities as "an amazing competence; faithfulness to himself; solidity of heart in his work; and a sound, professionally dependable talent that gave off a healthy glow."
