Untitled, New York

In his visually seductive color photographs of New York City, Epstein deftly describes the dynamic interface between private life and public space, extracting from seemingly banal details images that are funny, poignant, and at times, ominous—as in this photograph of two surveillance cameras cantilevered from a bridge. The automaton sentinels hover over the river and skyline like Big Brother's disembodied eyes.
