Jean Baptiste Oscar Mallitte established himself as a well known photographer in Calcutta and accompanied Lord Canning on the viceregal tour of the North-West Frontier Provinces in 1859.He is best known for his pioneering photographs taken in the Andaman Islands. A copy of this print exists in the Bayley Collection in the British Library under which, Lady Bayley writes that Lady Charlotte Canning was 'going out to sketch'.
