Inscription: The verso is annotated by an early hand, at bottom left, in graphite: "151"; "as". The verso of the mount is annotated by a 19th century British hand (scribe, working for the 1st Earl of Ellesmere; numbers and text relate to Bridgewater House catalogue, later published, London, 1898), near center, in pen and black ink: "17. Annibale Carracci. Study of heads + [and] hands: red chalk, heightened / with white. Size 9" x 12" 1/2. From the Collections of the Marquis Legoy. T. / Dims-dale + [and] Sir Thomas Lawrence". The verso of the mount is annotated by an early modern hand, at center, in graphite: "C".
