A large number of related kilns throughout north China produced ceramics for popular use that are generally known as Cizhou wares, after Ci, the name of a county in Hebei Province where many such wares were produced. Cizhou wares are characterized by their bold shapes and by the numerous techniques, including painting, used to decorate them.
