Casket

Not on view

This casket has no exact known parallels and both shape and technique are rarely encountered in its area of production. The repoussé technique was widely used to decorate gold and silver jewelry but sparely on objects in bronze. Although the decoration is not particularly accomplished, the composition is well balanced and the real and fantastic animals have an arresting, lively presence.
